Abstract
The spatial relationship between the trailing edge and the leading edge of the two neighboring blade rows, which masters the phase angle of the unsteady flow and has not be considered under the frame of steady flow theory, is now taken into account in further improving turbomachinery performance by the edge-matching technique. This paper presents numerical investigations about the EM. Its application methods can be illustrated and validated. One-stage steam turbine is modified with the use of the EM. Numerical results show that the EM provides an effective design freedom for the unsteady design of turbomachinery.
