Application of universal support apparatuses in building construction

Abstract

The overhead stone material pave and paste method was adopted in the project of the central square construction outside the Century Hall at Tsinghua University. Universal support apparatuses were chosen as the stone bear frame instead of brick frusta in the original design to guarantee the construction schedule. The composition and function of the universal support apparatus were analyzed, with comparisons in consideration of the project then made between the universal support apparatus and traditional support in aspects such as the construction method, construction rate, construction accuracy, as well as the appearance, strength, quality and economy. The results show that the universal support apparatus has obvious advantages in quality, construction period, cost and maintenance, therefore, the apparatus can be widely used in overhead landscape constructions.
