Analytical expressions for resonant-tunneling lifetime in symmetrical double-barrier structures

Abstract

The resonant-tunneling lifetime in a one-dimensional symmetrical double-barrier structure is calculated exactly based on the solution of the time-independent Schrödinger equation and the energy uncertainty condition. A simple analytical expression for the lifetime is obtained, and its validity and accuracy is proved by extensive comparisons with other currently used numerical techniques.
