Analysis and design of coreless permanent magnet brushless DC machine in high-speed energy storage flywheel application

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Coreless permanent magnet brushless DC machines (BDCM) with HALBACH magnet array and normal one are analyzed comparatively, laying emphasis on the variation of their air-gap field density distribution and rotor yoke flux with the magnet thickness. The field-circuit coupling design of coreless BDCM with HALBACH array is presented. The prototype is designed and fabricated to verify the theoretical analysis and satisfy the performance demand of satellite attitude control and energy storage flywheel with angular moment of 25 Nms at the speed of 30000 rpm.
