Abstract

When the maintenance resources are insufficient, the recovery strategy of the damaged equipment has large effect on the resilience of material handling systems (MHSs). This paper proposes a resilience-oriented recovery strategy analysis and comparison framework, and applies this framework to a tire tread handling system in a Chinese factory. To analyze the impact of recovery strategy on the resilience behavior of MHSs, two types of repair sequences are given: (1) repair the equipment with shorter recovery time first; and (2) repair the equipment with larger service capacity degradation first. By Monte Carlo based simulation, the resilience values of the system under the two types of repair sequences are analyzed and compared. Several combinations of damaged equipment are used to compare the effectiveness of the two strategies, and the results show that none of them has obvious advantage for the system resilience, i.e., a resilience-oriented recovery strategy optimization needs to be studied in the future.
