An optimization model for the additional AP placement in the existing Wi-Fi indoor positioning system

Abstract

This paper provides an optimization model to place additional access points (APs) in the existing Wi-Fi indoor positioning system. In the objective function, a new indicator: Enhanced dilution of precision (EDOP), defined as the quotient between the Euclidean distance (ED) of reference points (RPs) and the geometric dilution of precision (GDOP), is used to enhance the positioning accuracy. The genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to solve the optimization model. Experimental results show that the proposed model can improve the accuracy remarkably.
