Abstract

Ballistic limit equations (BLEs) are mainly used for spacecrafts' damage prediction and estimating the performance of the shields in a micrometeoroids and orbit debris environment. BLEs' developments are largely relied on hypervelocity impact (HVI) test data. This paper proposes a new idea of BLEs' optimization which can be used for improving the BLEs' prediction accuracy. The idea is based on the fundamental of genetic algorithm, using HVI test data to correct both the velocity region and the coefficients of Whipple shield equations. The prediction accuracy is improved notably after the optimization, which indicates the idea is available. Key words: ballistic limit equations, Genetic Algorithm, velocity region correction.
