Abstract
All-optical regeneration methods for binary phase modulated signals, which mainly focus on differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals, were introduced. And an all-optical regenerator design scheme for quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) and differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) signals was investigated through numerical simulations. It is found that the regenerator can provide significant suppression of both amplitude and phase noise, and that the transmission distance of a 40Gb/s RZ-DQPSK system can be extended to more than 2000 km at the BER of 10-12.
