Abstract

Investigations have increased dramatically over the past few years which indicates that astrocytes as an important and indispensable component of the nervous system have close communication with neurons and are crucial for maintaining normal life activities. An overview on the current studies on dynamic modeling of astrocytes is proposed in this paper. In Sections 1 and 2, the physiological significance of astrocyte and its role on the related diseases are stated. In Section 3, efforts on the related models and the dynamics of astrocytes are summarized. In Section 4, the related model of the network built by the astrocytes and neurons and the dynamics of the effect of astrocytes are presented. Finally, Section 5 gives an outlook of this area and suggests possible future directions for theoretical studies of astrocytes.
