Abstract

The collapse history of a typical impact member in vehicle was studied by numerical simulation technology. Compared with experimental results, four important factors affecting the collapse mode and simulation accuracy of thin-walled beam with closed-hat section were discussed respectively. The parameter adjustment method obtaining regular axial collapse modes was presented. Furthermore, a two-step law was proposed for crashworthiness design of structural component with both maximum and smooth energy absorption performance.
