Abstract

For Meteorology image lossless compression, a new compression algorithm based on the lossless data compression recommendation given by the Consultative Committee for Space Data System (CCSDS)[1] is presented. The algorithm is composed from two parts, preprocessor and adaptive entropy coder. Preprocessor comes from the theory of analyzing feature of local texture [2], and the entropy coder is borrowed from CCSDS 121.0-B-1. In order to prevent serious transmission error propagation and the possible overflow and underflow of the output buffer, several measures are special designed for the algorithm. Furthermore, the algorithm is implemented and verified with VLSI using verilog HDL, and all key techniques in VLSI design are referred to.
