Abstract

Coherent structures in turbulent boundary layers were observed and investigated by hydrogen bubble visualization. In the Water Tunnel Laboratory of Beihang University, a variety of coherent structures were obtained by previous researchers, and they found some new coherent structures probably valuable for subsequent research. Likewise, an similar investigation on turbulent boundary layer of flat-plate was conducted at the same place. The flow structures were obtained by the hydrogen bubble method and processed by software. By analyzing those results in large numbers, typical coherent structures such as streaks, hairpin vortex and streamwise vortex were viewed.
