Abstract
We first present a fuzzy-theory-based fractal image compression algorithm. The fuzzy theory is successfully applied in the traditional fractal image compression algorithm. An image-based fuzzy integrate judgement model is founded to evaluate the edge relevant quantity of the image blocks. The model can evidently save the coding time, as experiment results show that the coding time can be reduced approximately by 60-70% compared with the Jacquin's algorithm. At the same time, our approach can be combined with many other algorithms. Therefore, broader ranged application can be obtained.
