Abstract

In modern semiconductor supply chain, the problem of counterfeit IC and PCB/equipment is getting more and more attention. Previous works mainly focus on detecting counterfeit IC. In this paper, a novel authorization methodology to prevent counterfeit PCB/equipment through supply chain is brought forward. A ring oscillator array is inserted into the selected IC, and by judging whether the periods of ROs in the resonant and non-resonant state of the PCB matche the database from the authentic ones, the counterfeit PCB/equipment can be detected. The proposed authorization structure has been implemented on some authentic and counterfeit FPGA development boards, and more than 90% counterfeit PCBs can be identified by a 2-class support vector machine (SVM) classifier.
