Abstract

In this paper a new structural reliability analysis method is investigated by using the tool of the fuzzy random variables, which considering both aleatory and epistemic uncertainty simultaneously. Two orders four central moments (TOFM) method based on the maximum entropy model is proposed to evaluate reliability, and fuzzy quantities are measured by the α-cut approach. For each α-cut level, envelop distribution is used to describe the bound distribution of the fuzzy random variables. Then the first four central moments of the reliability bound distribution are calculated by employing the two orders Taylor expansion of the limit state function, and the approximate polynomial of the reliability bound can be fitted by taking the central moments as the constraint condition of the maximum entropy model. Thus the membership function of the fuzzy reliability is subsequently obtained. To show the computational efficiency, the Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) is utilized to compared with the proposed method and the results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method. In addition, these results also show it enable for engineer to obtain relatively precise and reliable solution under limited information.
