Abstract

Maintaining reliable mmWave connections to many fast-moving mobiles in multipath scenarios is a key challenge in the theory and practice of future mobile communication systems. Interference among different paths brings bad effects on the multipath beam tracking, leaving a big challenge to the mmWave mobile communication. In this paper, we first propose an angular-velocity-based recursive beam tracking(AVRBT) algorithm for single path, which performs almost as well as the recursive beam and channel tracking( RBCT) algorithm in static scenarios but much better than the RBCT algorithm in dynamic scenarios especially when the Angle of Arrival(AoA) changes very fast. Then we develop a two-path recursive beam tracking(TPRBT) algorithm using the AVRBT algorithm and the angular-velocity based RBCT algorithm to solve the problems caused by interference among different paths. The TPRBT algorithm performs well at the 2-path beam tracking problem in intersection scenarios. It can simultaneously track the beam direction of each path with fast tracking speed, high tracking accuracy and low pilot overhead.
