A new method of patched-conic for interplanetary orbit

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this paper, a new method of patched-conic for designing the interplanetary orbit is proposed. It is based on iterative computation and the equations are derived. The new method avoids the errors caused by assuming the velocity vector at the boundary of planetary sphere of influence parallel to the asymptote of the hyperbolic orbit. Based on the orbit constraint, the spacecraft's velocity vector and the position vector at the boundary of planetary sphere of influence are calculated during each iteration to meet the continuous condition. This method is suitable for implementation in computer program and has a fast convergence speed.
