Abstract

An approximate Pierce method is proposed which gives a convenient and theoretical analysis way for a one-dimensional compressed narrow sheet beam electron gun design by translating concentric spheres to fit coaxial cylinders. Using the theoretical calculation and the parameters analysis, the comparative Pierce gun for axially symmetric beam and narrow sheet beam are designed by 3-D simulation software. The simulation results show both models generate the beams closely matched the desired gun with the current of 0.14A, and the voltage of 22kV, which can obtain the beam compression by a factor of four in one direction.
