A Lightweight and Secure Authentication Protocol for 5G mMTC

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

Massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC) is one of the three application scenarios of 5G. In mMTC, massive resource constrained equipment is deployed, which has limited computing and storage capacity. Hence, it is impossible for it to execute complex authentication protocols. This paper proposes a lightweight and secure authentication protocol for 5G mMTC. It can achieve several security properties, such as mutual authentication, session key agreement, identity anonymity and resistance to multiple protocol attacks. What's more, our proposed protocol performs better in computational cost, signaling cost, transmission cost and storage cost than some other protocols, which is more suitable for 5G mMTC.
