Abstract

Constant-width element is a kind of array element widely used in antenna and radome field, which can be approximated by the combination of three basic geometric elements: Straight-line segment, arc segment and corner segment. Based on the V-dipole basis functions, a class of basis functions with flexible domain suitable for constant-width element is developed in this paper. The definition domain of these basis functions can be easily determined by the control points of the element contour, which has inherited the advantages of V-dipole basis function, and is more convenient for modeling and suitable for complex shapes. Several typical examples are given to test the performance of these basis functions for complex constant-width elements. The results show that when the definition domain is divided reasonably, these basis functions with a low order can obtain high calculation accuracy. Because the definition domain can be quickly determined by the control points of the element contour, this type of basis function can be conveniently used for the optimization of the element shape. This method can effectively accelerate the solving speed of the electromagnetic characteristics of complex elements. It also can be used to assist the rapid design of specified frequency band metasurfaces or specific function radomes.
