A geometric method for near sea target localization based on GNSS-R in passive radar

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

This work presents a new approach to locate targets near the sea surface based on Global Positioning System Signal Reflected (GNSS-R) in passive radar system. The algorithm uses an angle measuring system to obtain the elevation angle and the azimuth angle of the target's reflected signal. This method makes use of traditional geometric method to achieve a precise position of target without estimating its height. The approach can successfully localize a target that is over 700km away from the receiver. It has a low localization error which has a over 80 percent chance less than 1 kilometer. Computer simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
