Abstract

In this paper, a droplet-shaped cavity backed conformal discone antenna with scattering suppression is presented to solve the contradiction between omnidirectional radiation and low scattering characteristics. The proposed antenna, with a droplet-shaped cavity, is designed to operate in the L-band. The measured result shows 36.7% (VSWR < 2) relative impedance bandwidth, and the realized gain is more than -4dBi with an average of approximately 9dB RCS reduction compared with hexagonal cavity. The fabricated antenna shows broadband characteristics in both radiation and scattering, which demonstrates the potential application for scenarios with requirements for wideband radiation and scattering properties.
