Abstract
This paper introduces a novel bridge beamformer based on the bell-shaped window function for wireless communication and radar system and investigates its beam pattern characteristics. The bridge beamformer acts like a bridge connecting beamformer using the uniform window function and beamformer using smooth cutoff window function. The bell-shaped window function is an infinitely continuously differentiable function with characteristics of smoothness and compactly supported. The bell-shaped window produces the rapider sidelobe attenuation rate of the beam pattern than the uniform window so that the bridge beamformer with the bell-shaped window has better sidelobe suppression than the one with the uniform window. The computer simulation verifies the bridge beamformer's effectiveness.
