Abstract

It is more and more important to simulate construction processes visually. However, 3D simulation of construction processes is very complex and difficult because of many influential factors existing in complex projects. Based on the analysis of the complexity and speciality existing presently in developing 3D simulation systems for complex projects, OCS (Object Context Scenario), an object-oriented 3D simulation framework for complex construction processes is proposed. To convert the discrete results into simulation events is the foremost part of the framework. In addition, models of construction resources and their intrinsic behaviors are comprised in objects, which are encapsulated, transplanted and can be loaded repeatedly by scenario. Context that is also called construction environment consists of background images, videos and so forth. It is fixed, decorative and doesn't have to interact with users. Scenario is oriented to users, who can compile and save the simulation scenarios according to their requirements. The OCS framework is simple, extensible and portable. At last, a 3D simulation system is developed, which is successfully implemented in a real project certifying the effectiveness and feasibility of the framework.
