Abstract
Poor high-temperature oxidation resistance remains a major limiting factor hindering the application of niobium (Nb) alloys. Silicide coatings applied to the surface of Nb-based alloys have proven to be an effective solution for enhancing their oxidation resistance. This paper reviewed recent research progress in silicide coatings, introduced the commonly used preparation techniques for silicide coatings and their research advancements, summarized current methods for enhancing the oxidation resistance of silicide coatings, and outlined mechanistic studies related to silicide coating failure. Finally, the future development directions of silicide coatings were summarized.
