Abstract

On the basis of a brief description of the achievements and shortcomings of the conventional 2D passive millimeter-wave imaging technology, the principles, advantages, and implementation difficulties of 3D passive imaging are introduced. The 3D imaging performance of an ideal uniform spherical array is analyzed by numerical simulation and the imaging quality deterioration caused by the blocking effect is evaluated. Finally, a portal type imaging array suitable for non-cooperative human security screening is proposed and the imaging performance of this kind of array is analyzed. Simulation results indicate that the proposed portal imaging array theory can achieve wavelength-level passive 3D imaging resolution.
