Abstract
Polymer thin films have important applications in chemical manufacturing, green energy, materials, optoelectronics, and life sciences. Solvent evaporation is an important tool for the processing and preparation of polymer thin films, which has been widely studied and applied because of its simplicity, low cost, and ease of large-scale preparation. Here, we review recent research progress on the fabrication of functional polymer thin films by modulating the deposition pattern through evaporation, including the practical application of evaporation-induced polymer deposition patterns, theoretical models, and experimental techniques. We aim to provide an overview of research directions in this field and their interconnections, and to provide ideas for further research based on the current understanding of the formation mechanisms of the deposition pattern of evaporating polymer solutions. In addition, this review briefly summarizes the unsolved problems of the evaporation dynamics of polymer solutions, and provides an outlook for further development in this topic.
