Abstract

In this paper, the second generation intact stability criteria of IMO is introduced briefly. And the research progress of five stable failure modes, such as parametric rolling, pure loss of stability, dead ship stability, sur-riding /broaching and over acceleration of the second generation intact stability are re viewed. Then the first level of vulnerability criteria, the second level of vulnerability criteria and direct as sessment of five kinds of stability failure modes are given for ship designers.
