Abstract

To improve the standardization degree, assembly construction efficiency, safety and durability of traditional steel structure systems in residential industrialization applications, a new composite structural system with separate gravity and lateral load resisting systems was proposed in this paper, and its seismic performance is analyzed and evaluated. Using a real high-rise residential building as the prototype, two structural systems, namely, the traditional composite frame-shear wall structure and the newly proposed composite structure, were designed and the corresponding finite element models were established based on the control criteria of the same elastic inter-story drift ratio limit under frequent earthquake. A comparative analysis of these two systems, focused on both the deformation and stress characteristics, was carried out using the static elastic-plastic pushover method. Their seismic performances were evaluated using the indicators such as the inter-story displacement, damage states of key components and safety factor. The results show that: the composite structural system with separate gravity and lateral load resisting systems has a bending-type lateral deformation pattern, and the plastic hinges mostly appears at the bottom column end during the pushover process. By contrast, the traditional composite frame-shear wall structure has a bending-shear mixed type lateral deformation pattern, and the plastic hinges mostly appears at the beam ends. The two criteria of shear wall damage adopted in this paper are both applicable to identifying the ultimate state of two structure schemes. When controlled by the same inter-story drift design criterion, the composite structure system with separate gravity and lateral load resisting systems has a higher safety factor and thus a larger safety margin, compared with the traditional system.
