Abstract
Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation has a strong characteristic of first principle when simulating plasma in electric propulsion (EP) devices, but the calculation load is heavy during the simulation process. Thus, the acceleration methods for PIC algorithms are essential for the simulation. The calculation bottlenecks of PIC algorithm simulating EP devices are analyzed first, which are derived by the fundamental characteristics of EP devices, the physical properties of low-temperature plasmas, and the features of the PIC algorithm. At the same time, with the current research status at home and abroad, the principles and effects of corresponding calculation acceleration methods are introduced from three aspects : modeling, spatiotemporal scales, as well as the algorithm and parallelization. Finally, a summary is made to outlook the various calculation acceleration methods.
