Abstract
The wet-granulation process with a pharmaceutical fluidized bed involves very complex gas-liquid-solid flows, it is a challenging job to set up an appropriate numerical simulation model for that process. This paper introduces the recent advances in the coupled computational fluid dynamicsdiscrete element method (CFD-DEM) modeling in the field of the fluidized bed wet-granulation, including the methodology, challenges and prospects. Firstly, the governing equations of CFD-DEM accounting for the gas-solid mass and heat transfer in the wet-granulation process were introduced; secondly, the common methods for the modeling of the coating solutions (binder) were list; finally, the current challenges of the wet-granulation process modeling were summarized in four aspects and the future direction of this field was outlined.
